Im trying to figure out a bit about a geiger counter and would like to attempt to make one. From what I can tell its just a tube with gas that when radiation of some sort passes through the gas is becomes conductive and the inner rod connects to the outside tube completing the circuit. I find everything online requires a 500v(or so) ac transformer. My question is why is ac necessary couldnt I do the same thing alot easier with dc voltage?
