Transistor identification

    Can someone pls tell me how to know if a transistor is npn or pnp by mere reading the part number.

    the generic answer is "no". you typically will have to look at a datasheet to see that for sure.

    however, some countries use certain naming convention on some of their transistors (2sa/2sb/2sc/2sd and 2sj/2sk for the japanese for example). but that's not done consistently across time or across manufacturers.

    As far as I know, there is no transistor part numbering convention that can be relied on across manufacturers.
