transformerless devices

    hy! everyone..i am searching out some alternates for steppping up or stepping down the voltage so could any one plz guide me some methods for stepping up and down of voltage rather than traditional transformers..as to built a inverter having no transformer..

    Research Switching power supplies.

    smps.com is a good start.

    Also, for buck (step down) and boost (step up) info, look into Linear Technologies Simple Switchers.

    You'll need SOME kind of inductor(s), or your supply will have very limited current source ability.

    Any mains-powered supply must be isolated from mains power via inductors.

    another good resource is www.smps.us. There are links to wher you can find textbooks on the subject as well.
