Hi guys,

I have a few general questions about transformers:

1. if i want to feed an audio frequency signal into my transformer
(say 100hz-20khz), do i have to look for "audio frequency" specifications
when i look for the transformer, in other words - would a regular 50hz transformer work for this ?

2. When the transformer is specified - what is the real meaning of the output
voltage, for example this unit here:

http://www.amazing1.com/products/Mi...quency-Transformer-4kv-15ma-20k%2d100kHz.html

It mentions the number 4kv, and briefly mentions 12v ac input, but what
would happen if i drive it from an audio amplifier at 3v - will i get 1kv at the input ? is there a lower limit to this ?

I am basically trying to build a variable ac signal generator capable of large
voltages, hence the questions.

Kind regards,
Lenny

transformers are tuned to their usable frequency of operation so you need no use the right design or your output wont work.

That transformer doesn't even start until 20KHz. If you try to go slower than that, the core saturates. 60 watts is close to the range you need (from your other post) but you have to be in the right frequency range to get this one to operate within specs. You're out of range.

Try looking up Hammond transformers.
