Hi, I want to use a touchpanel for HMI (human machine interface). Never done it before, any suggestions, pointers to suppliers.

Also, is there a standard for how to interface these touchpanels? (I don't want to get all specialized in one manufacturer's protocol.) Thank you!

many protocols are used, but TC/IP is current A number of suppliers have products that will run on windows CE, so you have a choice of ARM or traditional PC architecture. AdvancedHMI open source may have something to offer you. HMIs communicate with something, so you'll be a slave to thier protocol, although many of those protocols are widely supported.

So, basically any touchscreen with windows and ethernet support is doable. Used ELO pos terminals are cheap and are good quality.

Most touch screens just imulate a mouse, newer ones use a USB interface and the computer just thinks it's a mouse.

You need to clarify whether you're looking for a complete product that plugs into a computer, or a touch panel as a component that you can add into an existing design.
