Ironically, my ancient XP box, which I saved from the scrap pile more than once, is still happily humming along :)

I'm just thinking of replacing my XP box but I don't know what I would do with it? It still works perfectly and I would not be able to get myself to drop it in the recycle bin.

I still have a XP Prof workhorse, all I have done a couple of times is upgrade the MB, it still does what I want of it.

My last XP machine died about a year ago. Fortunately, I had accumulated (2) Vista machines by then. :)
Good luck on your repairs. Most of us know your machines only need some parts and some intellect to resume working.

Got my home server back up by inserting a network card. That really aggravates me because the motherboard is only two years old. Dropped the "sticking touchpad" laptop off at the local repair shop. Believe they have a better parts inventory than I have, so it'll get done faster. Still playing with the 3rd machine. I'm starting to believe it's not really an infection, rather a corrupted DLL file.

How secure is XP now days since it is no longer updated, a lot of different opinions out there. Replaced my workstations with Win8.1 and never looked back. The metro is actually pretty cool once you get used to it. There is no drawbacks to updating to win7 or win8/8.1 now since you can upgrade to win10 for free if you have one of those, and win10 seems to be a killer (in a good way).

I have one computer that I put together, 2.4 ghz, 1 gb ram and such that I only use for non internet stuff so it wont get infected. I got several fairly good dell computers from boeing surpluss before they left wichits for good. I am also very carefull with my hp laptop, so I hope I wont have to resort to the bone pile.
