Can anyone suggest how to make a thermoelectric generator using simple and easily available metals combination for school level projects.

Any dissimilar metals. I think iron and copper is quite good. Each junction will only generate millivolts. So you need a lot in series.

Then you have the problem of corrosion of the contact points at the junctions.
