Good for you Brownout. Your return is still OPEN with the IRS for the next three years. All returns are open for three years since the filing date. Keep your files in order in case the IRS decides to inquire.

I'll be holding my breath! My only concern was mis-interpreting the rules. But I didn't want to miss out on any legitimate deduction, especially now considering I'm working under a whole new regime (contracting vs being a normal employee)

I haven't made any income this year except for unemployment, which has long since ran out. Taxes for this year might be much more simple.

You do realize that unemployment income is taxable income. Prepare for that if you haven't already done so by withholdings from the Unemployment Income.

I'm all for getting people every penny they legally deserve.

If I only end up with the puny amount of unemployment income, there won't even be enough income to pay taxes on. That will greatly simplify filing :)
