Switched and Auto backup lights

I have just installed a pair of 5 watt led back up lights on the back of my truck under the bumper. I spliced into a wire that went to my trailer connector for power and grounded them to the frame. The lights now turn on automatically when ever I put my truck in reverse. however, I do a lot of plowing and some driveways I need to leave the lights on in the back to see. Does anyone know of a way to make the led back up lights turn on with a switch and stay on whether I am in drive or reverse (getting their own power from the battery) and also switch them to an off or 'auto' mode where they will turn on only when I am in reverse. I have tried a few different things and everything seems to back feed or put the power in the wrong place when I don't need it. Any input would be a real big help Thank You

we're not supposed to do auto stuff here.

You can do what you need using a couple of power diodes to OR connect the power to the LEDs from two different sources.
