Government surplus auction site had these with a minimum bid $150 for 3 Huge 3 phase Variacs.

If the wife wouldn't kill me I would be tempted. I think they would be overkill for creating a shop supply.

At 50$ a piece I think I could pawn two off and make my money back.

If you got the space for em I'd use em just for fun, those look like really nice units, probably in tip top shape once they're cleaned. beenthere's right though, there's a chance that coppers worth that much, and it shouldn't be that hard to scrap.

No! They are hobby variacs for REAL BIG breadboards. ;)

I gar-un-tee they are worth more than $150 in scrap.

I would see if the Smithsonian will purchase one off you for a few grand. (Kidding)

But, I do think you could sell them to third-world countries who need the technology for their emerging industries. And they are spending US dollars, so they will GROSSLY overpay.

You always regret the one you pass on. Like coming across a Model T Ford crankshaft still in the factory wrapper. Or that Norden bombsight.

Not very useful, but really different (you have a crankshaft on your wall?!? You're going to bomb someone????).

How a bout a link? Which government? I remember some really great deals in Jessup, Maryland. Problem was, you had to be a non-profit entity like a university to bid on them.

But it is only 17 hours left in the auction and if I can't arrange to pick it up (it is 1000km away from where I live) I will be amazed to see you come from the Maldives even if it is a bargain.
