Hi friends,

I planned to make a LED clock. The searched the net and found this one very interesting to do. Please follow the link below,

http://www.dos4ever.com/ledklok/ledklok.html

But while procuring the materials required, I was unable to get the 74hc563 which is used for this project. Later, I got 74hc373 as substitute for 74hc563. From the datasheets I understood that I can use 74hc373 instead of 74hc563. But still I have doubt. I require your help my dear frinds. Can I use 74hc373 instead of 74hc563 ? For more details check the above link.

You could use a 74xx540 after any non inverting octal latch to produce the same function as the 74hc563. As long as you use a prototype board or roll out your own PCB. The result should be the same

You cannot use them as a drop in replacement. The 563 has inverted outputs and a different pinout.

Look at the logic diagrams. You should be able to use them inverting the 373 outputs.
74hc373 has different pinout and is not inverting. (1.) Is there any other IC that I can use instead of 74hc563 that has similar pinout, logic and ,of course, is inverting. Because I want to complete this project. (2.) What if I connect the pins with certain alterations. For example, if a connection is made in pin number 9 in 74hc563 in original project, the same pin may be pin number 18 in 74hc373, in this case, can I connect the same wire that has to be connected in pin number 9 of 74hc563 to pin number 18 of 74hc373 which has same potential (output) as per datasheets. Will this work properly?

Unless you have a magic wand I would say no ;) Have you looked at other variants of the 74hc563. I know it is a 74ls563 type IC. Else as I said place any inverter after the 74hc373 chip. And you will get the same function.

Ok what type of inverter can I use for this? Can you please specify it with details?

At least I can try. From the top of head you may use two 74xx04 or a 74xx540. 74hc04 or 74hc540 will both work. Which one of these can you get hold on. I would have used the 74xx540 since all the inputs are on one side of the chip. And the outputs are on the opposite side

Thank you, let me try...
