    Hello everyone,

I have electronic device which have SUB D25 connector. During its work it sends signals which I want to read on serial port of my computer. SUB D25 pin assigment:

    2 - TX
    3 - RX
    4 -CTS
    5 - RTS
    7 - GND
    20 - N.C.

I need to make interface. Does anyone have schema?
    Do I need MAX232 IC?

    thanks,

So you are telling me that I can directly connect SUB D 25 pins to computers RS232 connector like this, without any ICs:

This cable should be used for DTE to DCE (for instance computer to modem) connections with hardware handshaking.
    (To Computer).
    (To Modem).
9 PIN D-SUB FEMALE to the Computer
25 PIN D-SUB MALE to the Modem
    Female Male Dir Shield 1
    Transmit Data 3 2
    Receive Data 2 3
    Request to Send 7 4
    Clear to Send 8 5
    Data Set Ready 6 6
    System Ground 5 7
    Carrier Detect 1 8
    Data Terminal Ready 4 20
    Ring Indicator 9 22

Set up the port for the correct baud rate. It can get to be complicated as to which indicators and handshakes get used, but the serial port is specifically designed for RS232 serial communications.

I was looking on Internet and have found MAX232 chip. When is it used?
    When we want galvanic insulation?

    thanks,
