Hello would like some help with a step down transformer. i need to demo some equipment on a cruise ship which only has 220 volts. I went out and bought a 0.05 kva control transformer for 220 volt to 120 volt and hooked it up at home however I cannot get my equipment to run. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How much current your equipment needs? With a 50 VA transformer you will have less than 500 milliampers available.

It seems that you need a larger transformer. 0.05 KVA is worth only 50 watts for a light bulb. For modern electronic equipment, it is probably only good for powering 20 to 30 watts (because of power factor). Get a step-down transformer with a VA rating or at least 2X the total equipment, higher for a better safety margin.
