I bought this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223593 pir detector however it will only work during night light levels and not day levels so i took it apart to try and find a light dependent resistor to see if i could trick it into working during day light levels however couldn't find such a component.

Is there any hope in getting this detector to work in day light levels or is it hopeless ?

 

If it does only operate under nighttime light levels there's a sensor in there somewhere, it just may not look as you'd expect it to. Could look just like a TO-92 transistor or something with an integral filter so dark that it appears to be opaque.

Try placing bits of black electrical tape over any suspected components until it starts working during the day.

 

Can you post pictures of the inside circuit? maybe someone can spot the LDR....

Another question unrelated Ive got one of these pir sensor im hoping to interface with a piceaxe on an input pin for motion detection .
