As you know lately schematics and parts list for the industry has severely decreased over the last 10-20 years. Most of the time I troubleshoot without them, but sometimes you do need them when crossing parts.

I find that crossing SMD components is very difficult because of the limited information printed on the component. They are difficult to read is the first problem, second being the lack of uniformity of the manufactures. Cross reference lists are incomplete and misleading.

I have a unit that appears to have 3 SOT23-3 case styles, I am assuming they are bad. The problem I can't find any thing close to the listed letters on the component.

I will list them below, the capital letters are the ones listed across the case, lower case is the ones listed sideways on the component.

    PJ bf crossed to BB159
    ZCA bh
    NJ dd

I have a few of these boards, and all the small letters that are sideways are different on each board, so I am guessing this is a manufacture date code.

If anyone has a good site for crossing these parts it would be a great help to me.

    Thanks Jim

Don't think that will help you much. You won't be able to read anything. But I will bring in a high resolution camera and take a picture of it. Even with high resolution I doubt you will be able to read anything.

Does the camera have a "macro" setting. If so, it can take really sharp pictures really close.

yes I have a high end slr digital camera by canon. But that isn't the problem, the problem is you have to tilt the board to read the components.

Oh, so it's one of those: "Hard to get at component?"

    I see.

No they are easy to see, its just not easy to see the markings without tilting the board.
