The 1N4148 is axial leaded and I would like a surface mountable part that is equivalent in speed or better. Other similar characteristics. Any one know any off the top of their head. Thanks.

If that meets your requirements that is good. It is just as fast in recovery and can carry the same amount of continuous current.

My only thought was that there are plenty of 4148 diodes out there in surface mount packages... Not knowing what similar characteristics you are looking for, just moving to a surface mount package can eliminate a lot of searching. You can get them from Mouser for $.10...
