We also called them printers....
at least until scanners were developed.
1972 is pretty ancient in electronics terms.

if you study the sheet closer ,you will see its for a write only memory i am especially impressed with the fact they can be used in FINO[first in never out] asynchronus buffers and Non Intelligent Microcontrollers....have a look at the numbered remarks.....:D
