You say you want to transmit a baby's voice over a short range? Have you explored the commercial products for this task? They can be had for a few dollars on places like eBay http://tinyurl.com/3shexe3 and often picked up at a garage sale for very reasonable prices. I own several which are very handy when the young grand-children are visiting over night.

If this kind of device does not suit your needs, it would be helpful to know how you plan to use the end product. There are dozens of Tx/Rx pairs for data transmission . . . analog audio is another matter.

I did a voice transmitter few years ago, I bought a simple kit(cost me around $9),they already have all you need including PCB,schematics, components etc. I found the kit in many local electronics component shop. here is some of them (http://www.canakit.com/fm-transmitters).

I just stumbled into an interesting discussion blog that includes different wireless protocols and provides an objective view of the different available protocols and technologies – http://www.short-range-wireless.com/. I hope you will find it helpful. All the best.
