Fuzing drive outputs isn't the norm. There are circuits inside most drives which take care of motor protection. Refer to these manuals from common drive manufacturers:

sorry, I was on a roll about 3phase motor controllers (also called "Inverters"); if that's not what you were talking about then please ignore.

True that VFDs provide overload protection, whilst overcurrent is in the form of supply line fusing/breakers.

You have made a good point in that further clarification should have been sought.
