I'm doing a senior project which requires using a display. I found a dot matrix VFD and a one page data sheet. but it doesn't explain how to use it. i'm really confused and my teachers can't even help me. the part number is: CU20025ECPB-U1J

Any help would be great. thanks.

thanks it helps there is just one thing. how would you input a hex code code with only 8 inputs? i've never used a VFD so kind of shooting in the dark here.

It might be helpful to know more about the project - what is going to drive the display, for instance.

that's the thing i'm not sure how to drive the display. The class i'm taking only deals with seven segment lcd displays not dot matrix so i'm kind of on my own here.

Did you read the app note? It describes the electrical characteristic of the cable termination, plus 8 bit operation. It also make it clear that an active device like a microprocessor is necessary to utilize a VFD.

To make it more of a challenge, the app note is not the easiest one to figure out.
