    Hi all,

I have recently been given two server fans, they say on them:

    DC12V 1.50A

I realise that I need a PSU of at least 1.5A for each fan. Sadly, although I have a huge box of old chargers, none reach this. The closest I have is 12V 1.3A.

I do, however have an old Xbox PSU, that is 12V 16.5A 203W.

Is it possible to use this to power one or both of them, or will I set fire to something?

Any dc supply rated 12VDC and greater than 3A should work just fine to power them.

Thanks for the incredibly fast reply!

So, it doesn't matter that it has a high Wattage output? It's just amps that I should be concerned about?

I could power both from this to save having two power units?

It just looks a bit big to power two little fans.

The fans will only draw the power that they need. Look at the battery in your car/truck, it's huge, and yet it powers the little bulb in your glove compartment.

    Thanks guys.

I thought as much, was just a little disturbed by the size of it.

I'm off to strip an Xbox PSU ;-)
