Thanks to help from here my project has arrived at a state where it does what its supposed to. Voice works fine even though you don't hear it.

Would never have guessed that, considering I have no idea where you are

Neat project. I once thought of doing something similar--turning the wood myself, shaping it, etc. Never got off the ground, though, because I didn't have access to a wood shop.

Thanks. The biggest problem overall was space. I really wish I could get rid of the box but I didn't feel like blowing money on a fancy battery so it'll do for now.

 

Super cool project, but the gloves are freaking me out a bit.

Much more room inside a Western Electric 500 series rotary phone.
