I am learning about steam engines and electricity and reading Gibilisco's teach yourself book. I have gone to Jaycar and the guy was good enough to sell me a IRF1405 Mofset and some reed switches but I can't get it to work properly.
I am building an engine and am having problems with the contacts ( The spark gap is costing nearly 2 volts, the firing coil itself only uses 1.74v at 0.8 ohms ) and I would like to make a new engine using reed switches and a heavy duty transistor or mosfet, relay switch etc. I am open to suggestions and ideas.
