rectifier circuits

    can we use igbts and mosfets in the rectifier circuits instead of diodes and scr?
    what are the factors to be considered?

    I don't think so. Moreover why would you want to do that?

    Can't see where IGBT's would be of help, but MOSFETS would reduce the voltage drop that's inherent in silicon rectifiers. The problem would be getting them started; you'd need some silicon rectifiers to "jump start" the gate drivers.

    You'd only want them conducting when the voltage across the MOSFETs was of the correct polarity to charge the filter caps.
