Reading schematics

What resource (web pages, book, youtube) can I use to help me with reading schematics? On a chapter by chapter basis (diode, capacitor) I get it. But when faced with reading some of these schematics with many componenents for projects I just have difficulty determining the direction of current flow and keeping track of it. I'm surprised I find it so hard because I'm a programmer, but these larger schematics are kicking my rear. Any advise appreciated.

Thank you Bertus. The Network Analysis chapter looks like what I need to read. The more I refer to the allaboutcircuirts web site book/documentation the more I get irritated about having to pay for this $100 text book when a better source is online free. Thanks again.

Thanks from me too, Bertus!!! I'm working on protective relay theory, but without the professor, bumbling around solo is not getting me anywhere.
