I am wondering if there is any other way (than using a microcontroller) to read a 1 sec audio sample (.wav) from a usb stick. I need to be able to load the sample on to the stick and then play it back with a push button switch

has to be stand alone

load sample from computer to flash drive - remove flash drive - plug into device - turn on device - hit button - hear sound

 

I was extremely impressed when I saw this guy's project:

It reads from an SD card, but it's also a single pic solution. Audio isn't perfect, but hey - it's a single pic!

Thanks for the links...looks cool! Is it even possible to do with out a micro controller? How is the memory address. I am only familiar with eprom style addressing...
