Can anyone explain why, If you have a equation that has (area) in it, and it is given in cm2 or mm2 when you convert it into m2 for the equation to work, the area seems to be smaller than before.

eg. from my text book 500cm2 is supposidly 0.05m2
I would have thought 500cm2 would be 5m2

another example CSA of 500mm2 is 0.0005m2

Say you have a rectangle 50cm by 10cm

The area is A=50*10=500 sq cm

The same rectangle is also 0.5m by 0.1m

The area is therefore also A= .5*0.1=0.05 sq m

So A = 500 sq cm = 0.05 sq m

Keep in mind a square metre = 100cm * 100cm = 10,000 sq cm
