I am new to this forum but have been doing electronics off and on for decades. Can anyone give me some pointers on how I can make a device where I can press a button and then a specific series of pulses is generated such as 10 pulses 2 seconds apart each lasting about a second. The exact timing is not critical but the number of pulses is critical. ideally I would want to be able to set a switch to do 10 pulses, 20 pulses and 30 pulses etc.

What are the levels of the pulses/power needed?

I'd suggest getting a PicKit2 or similar clone, they are a lot of fun and simple to program/change.

Your design could be completed with as little as a button, and a $1.50 PIC Microcontroller and a bit of code! An extra transistor might be needed if the pulses need to be greater than 5V @ 20mA.
