Proportional valve, PWM driver frequency

I have designed a vacuum regulator using a proportional valve. The valve has the PWM frequency specified for 400 hz. I would like to increase the frequency to >20 kHz so that the valve is inaudible. The valve is just a solinoid. Does anyone know of any reason the PWM frequency cannot be increased?
