Is there anything I can do with a few TIP31s, TIP32s, and assorted capacitors, resistors, and such?

 

A split supply voltage regulator maybe ?

hmm. MOSFETs are awesome aren't they? When I was young I was particulary obsessed with LEDs, including to hoard components to make a large circulating oscillator (the one's with 3 or 5 transistors are well known but you can use really a large number).

That gigantic ring oscillator was never built...
