Hi
I am an industrial designer confronted with a problem I dont know much about. I want to design a system for a tractor that allows it to move automatically in pre defined paths (Automatic Guided Vehicle or AGV) in a greenhouse, which can be simply done by laying an induction wire and using a sensor to follow the magnetic field. The problem is that the vehicle needs to have an emergency stop in case it encounters an unexpected object in its path. I was thinking of going for something like a SICK proximity sensor (3d laser scanner) but they are too expensive (4000 Euros a piece !) Is there any way I can build one of these or another proximity sensor for this kind of an application.
Thanks!
