The nalanda site, which contains the NatSemi app notes, is on and off, periodically. I fear for its longevity.

Maybe the pdfs should be stored locally while the site is still up.

What are common components that folks are using that I may add to the list?

Also for motor H-bridge drivers, what low-side and high-side MOSFETs are being used?

 

I hadn't visited this thread in a long time, and I don't remember when the footprints tables for the 3-pin elements was introduced, but it is very helpful.

Thank you for such a complete and thorough listing of the most common parts and there common uses. Makes part selection a bit easier, even if you happen to need a slightly different spec or voltage. Great series.

Does anyone know the difference between the LT1086 regulator and the LM counterpart?

The numbers don't tell a complete story.

 

Usually it is wattage, but I have no clue myself.

 

As far as I can tell looking at the datasheets, they are practically identical.

 

I went today to buy the LT1086. My supplier didn't have it BUT he informed me that it would cost at about 11 euros, due to its high performance (1.5A @ 3.3V). Instead he sold me this: http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheets/700/392975_DS.pdf. The LD1117. It's cheaper at less than a euro and for that you get 800mA. Pretty big difference.

So, yeah, that's my suggestion.
