I cannot copy it to the top of the list. I can copy your post to the sticky, so you can edit it yourself.

I 'll leave the sticky locked, tell me if you can edit it. If not, make any changes here and I 'll move it to the sticky once you 're done.

It's really impressive to see how fast the list has grown, including the datasheets. I've seen a voltage to frequency converter is among the missing parts, here is one suggestion:

www.national.com/ds/LM/LM231.pdf

The classic LM331, designed by the late Bob Pease, with a linearity of 0.01% in the 1Hz - 10kHz range. Don't worry that the name of the file is LM231- it's just another family member with an extended temperature range.

Geo, is it possible to move or copy post #28 to the top of the thread and to the other thread also in such a way that I can still edit it?
Unfortunately no, this is why you see me list "stash" posts when starting a thread I am writing an article in.

My suggestion is to start another thread, then make several stash posts as fast as VB will let you.

When I was writing my LEDs, 555s, etc article it tooks 2 threads and a blog. The 2nd thread still ran out of room, which is why I moved the text over to the blog, and use the thread as a writing tool.

A blog gives you the ability to moderate your blog (ie, delete unwanted responses), you still can't more other peoples posts if they are in the way. It is a function of the time/date stamp.

We could move over to the table format. What do you think Geo?

Geo, you could post the list in your own post #1 at the top of the thread.
Bill, re: Tables, does VB refer to Visual Basic or vBulletin?
Can you show me how to do tables and I will see how much effort it takes?

Geo taught me, it is fairly easy, the opening command is table.

If GeoRacer doesn't beat me to it I'll see if I can transfer some of his better posts over here.

OK, it is in this thread in the Feedback and Suggestions

MrChips, try study this code snippet:

It results to this:
Project Name | Author | Submission Date Halloween decorations | tom66 |11/3/2010
LED Candle | wayneh |11/8/2011
Novelty 30 LED star | T.Jackson |11/23/2011
Knight Rider style sweeping light | Fenris |8/23/2009
Swearing Greeting Card | Art |9/16/2007

The info for writing it was taken from here: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=900270&postcount=2

I'm not sure about the table format, since we won't have too many components per category. Play with it a bit MrChips and tell us what you think.

I copied a post of yours into the locked thread, in order to give you a chance to edit it without me intervening. I don't know if that's possible, though, since the thread is locked.

Give it a shot and tell me. If you can't edit a list here and I 'll copy it regularly to the sticky.

How to control column width?
Apart from column and formatting issues, which do you prefer?

You need to have a new line for each table row.
You need to close the Font tag in order for it to take effect.

I explained to you that the system tried to read the date as DD/MM/YYYY. Since you entered it with the US standard, it's logical that it didn't work.

The table already contains some nice audio op amps, perhaps it would be useful to add a precision op amp for DC or slowly changing signals. Normally you would have to define “precision” – do you want an op amp with low offset voltage or one with low offset current / bias current ? Luckily, the LT1012 offers an impressive combination of low offset voltage (25uV max.) and low bias current (100pA max.).

http://cds.linear.com/docs/Datasheet/1012afbs.pdf

This looks quite nice for an “all around” precision op amp – as long as signals don’t change too fast, slew rate is only 0.1 V/us (min.). But before you get too enthusiastic and follow the advice in the datasheet that the “LT1012 can be stocked as the universal internally compensated precision op amp”, you should look at the price, don’t fill all your drawers with them !

Blofeld, thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming.
What are people using for rail-to-rail single supply opamps, hexfets, switching supplies?

I like those choices. I went to see local parts supplier (Jim Tanner, the owner of Tanner's Electronics in Carrolton) and asked his opinion (I would qualify him as a bona fide expert) as to a few parts, more than half those he named were already up there.

Her are some of his selections for items I wanted to see...

N Channel MOSFET
IRF540

P Channel MOSFET
IRF9540

220 Case Style Silicon Power Transistors
TIP41C - NPN 65 W
TIP42C - PNP 65W

220 Case Style Darlington
TIP101 - NPN
TIP107 - PNP

I notice the Digital has appeared on the list, which IMO is good.

We do need to separate the ones that are more used than others, leave them in the list, but also list them outside in a second list. Parts like...

CD4017 - 10 output Johnson counter
CD4022 - 8 output Johnson counter.
CD4029 - Asynchronous Up/Down counter
CD4040 - 12 Bit Ripple Counter
CD4052 - 1 of 4 Analog Mux/DeMux
CD4060 - RC/Crystal Time base and 14 bit ripple counter
CD40106 - Hex inverting Schmitt Trigger

CD4511 - BCD to 7 Seq Decoder

7447 - BCD to 7 Seg display
7490 - BDC counter
7492 - Mod 12 counter

MAN74A - LED 7 seg display

A good source of data sheets is
http://users.otenet.gr/~athsam/database.htm
I use it often.

I went through my PaintCAD note and cherry picked the chips I though were most useful, it is not meant to be a complete list, and other people may have other ideas.
