hi,
I am doing a project in power factor improvement using capacitors banks.for this i have determine the lag between current and voltage.plz suggest any method.other thing is ,for improving power factor where should i connect the capacitors.(parallel to the load with one end to the dc ground or parallel to the load with one end to the neutral of ac power ).

Power factor correction capacitors would be connected directly across the incoming AC supply.

They would connect between live and neutral on a single phase system, or to all three lines of a three phase system.

You need a power factor meter to measure the existing power factor and the effect of correction. If it is just a small single phase load, you may be able to use one of the small power usage monitoring devices, some of these also read power factor.

Be very careful with any mains powered equipment and be sure the capacitors you use are suited to direct mains connection!
