Hi, I want to make a wireless transmitter and receiver to Alarm me when i have mail in my mail box. My mail box is approx 500 meters from my house so TX RX needs to work long range. I was thinking of a reed switch on the door of the mail box to activate the transmitter. I would like a visual and audio alarm to be on the receiver e.g. an LED and buzzer. could anyone help me with the circuits to carry out this project??

A wireless system such as this may work for you.

I tend to agree, the range you want is a bit extensive.

If you want to try some DIY solutions I might be able to show some schematics, but the FCC is picky about transmitters overall (which really is a problem).

So, are you willing to experiment, or do you want to go with the off the shelf solutions presented?

Thanks for your replies. i would like to experiment and build it myself rather than buy off the shelf. So a few schematics would be greatly appreciated,
