Possible Inductive Interference

I have a simple circuit with an LED, TSOP 1838, Arduino UNO, and single-channel relay board. Using the acquired code from my tv remote (decoded before project), the circuit turns off and on with my tv remote without any problems. However, when I use a small 9V motor instead of an LED, I cannot turn relay off to turn motor off when I press the tv remote. I am not using a transistor. I am using diodes for relay and motor. Any suggestions for this perplexing situation?

Run a separate ground wire for your motor and only let your circuit ground and motor ground become common at the battery or power supply connection
