Also if you want to program using C-language, the C-compiler is FREE also it is called WINAVR.

Take a look at this one:

It should work to convert your usb to RS232 for the STK500. It use the FTDI232 chip that is usually works well with the STK500.

As a matter of fact, I was confronted with the same problem. I bought a USB-to-serial-port adaptor from WalMart and it worked just fine.

Any quality USB-to-serial-port adaptor should work.

hgmjr
