    I am supposed to find the real part of (10-2j) + (6-8j)

    I know you just add these together to get (16-10j)
    then, Vm=sqrt(16*16+10*10)=18.87
    phi= arctan16/-10 = -57.99
    phasor = 18.87|-57.99

    how do i find the real part of this?

    The real "bits" don't have the imaginary operator 'j' associated with them

    So the real part is just 16.
