Over winding an iron core

Real situation, I bought some High Pressure Sodium fixtures that were labeled "35 watts" but the inductor was for a 50 watt bulb. Not knowing any better at the time, I added something like 12 turns (or was it 20 turns?) to the inductor. Will this put more or less stress on the iron? By stress, I mean overheating caused by too much magnetism, and you must consider that the goal of reducing current was accomplished.

If you need numbers, I can probably look this up in an old notebook, but I think the math can be done without specifics.

It will not stress the iron. If the inductor does not become excessively hot (too hot to touch) after the light has been on for a couple hours then there is no problem.
