@bribri

The boat trip was a 1-hour tour in the channels of Amsterdam so I guess it doesn't quite count as an outdoor activity. As for the ice hotel, no I didn't spend the night there. I visited it and that was enough for me. I prefer to sleep on a mattress and have the bathroom under the same roof as my bed.

What planes do you fly? There are several of us on this forum who enjoy that.

John
Sorry, shouldn't have been plural (I'm tired.) I fly my *plane*, which is a simple "park flyer", a Hobbyzone Mini Super Cub. I've had a few smaller planes in the past but this is my biggest one yet. I'm hoping to get into FPV, hence my OSD I'm developing.

Be very aware of government paranoia with that. The FAA (USA) is looking at regulating all RC flight, because a few fools have done foolish things. No one wants to file a flight plan and contact tower before taking off with a model airplane. Some members of our Congress are on the side of hobbyists. It is an area where a little self control may prevent a lot of government control. I strongly suggest you hook up with a recognized club locally.

Check out the AMA site for more info (http://www.modelaircraft.org/aboutama/voice.aspx ).

I'm with FPVUK. In the UK are laws are less crazy but they are looking at regulating that too. I'm flying in a park with nobody around for a good half a mile, and flying no higher than 100 ft. I see no risk myself, but laws weren't designed to prevent accidents it seems: more to justify the organisations' own existence.

I fly these little guys a few times a week when the wind is calm.
The Piper cub frequently gets caught in a thermal and goes up so high that I can hardly see it. The motor stops running when the battery gets low on its charge then it is difficult to fly down.

Here's an outdoor hobby. The ones I fly are just a little smaller. Look at that engine. It was probably homemade.

@ John - it maybe a Rotec; http://www.rotecradialengines.com/0RotecR2800/R2800.htm

A couple of guys have even built motorcycles(choppers) around these engines.
