open port no 25

    :eek:
    while using telnet to send email;there came response ;couldn't open connection to host,on port 25:connect failed.
    can anyone solve this problem.:rolleyes:

    Not sure if it relates but Telnet uses port 23.

    Or I think port 995 for VPN.

    And Telnet is not an Email protocol.

    Telnet does indeed use port 23 but I expect you are using telnet to connect to a host then using sendmail on that host to email the remote computer.

    Port 25 is the sendmail smtp port so the error message is saying that the computer that you are connected to via telnet can't connect to the remote host sendmail port. This could either be a firewall issue or possibly smtp is not configured on the host that you are trying to email. In either case you should be speaking to your system administrator.

    Your ISP may block port 25.

    If there has been problems with spammers using it, it has likely been blocked.

    You WILL HAVE TO USE another port, or call your ISP to see if they will unlock port 25 for you. Some will. Most will not.

    is there any way by which smtp can be configured on the host.
