OP AMP Lockup

    I have read somewhere that NE 5532 or AD712 op amps will lock up if the negative power supply voltage does not come up before the positive. I may have this backwards. I have a circuit that will lock up the first time power is applied, but if the circuit is cycled off and then back on rapidly, it works fine. I built this audio amp 15 years ago and can't remember where I saw this.

    15 years ago that may have been true as the isolation structures inside the chip got forward biased if the power came up wrong. I looked over the data sheets of those devices and saw no warnings about such, so I would imagine the manufacturers upgraded their processes.

    Your "fix" may be as simple as to buy a new op amp and replace.
