I have an LCD display commented to a PIC.

The display has a HD44780 controller. It is a 16x2 LCD.

Previously, it was working fine. I put the project aside for a while and recently dragged it back out.


Now it is like the display thinks it is a 8x2 display. Only the first 8 characters display on each line. Is it possible that half of the LCD could have gone bad or should I be looking for something else?


And not sure how to describe it but there seems to be a strange interference that is appearing on the right half of the display. It is almost like a graphic,

 

Check your solder joints. Flux may have traveled in storage causing a short. I cant say I have ever seen this happen myself.

 

Do you have another of the same kind of LCD lying around?

 

It was bread boarded, not soldered.

I did replace it with another LCD of the same type and that one works fine.

So I am not sure if I have half a bad LCD or if it was simply a bad connection.

I guess when I get some time I will hook up the original.
