Hi i know im just learning !:)

Standard square base relay contacts have pinout numbers, these are industry standard?

Do octal base relays have the same pinout numbers?

EG can i in a circuit substitue an square base with an octal just by following the pinout numbers?

Cheers

The safest thing to do would be to get the datasheet for each device and compare. Datasheets are widely available on the web. See the sticky at the top of these forums for a list of sites. John

Edit: The sticky is on the Electronic Resources sub-forum.

Industrial plug in type 8 and 11 pin relays have a standard pinout, usually they have the pin numbers drawn on the relay.

One important thing to know is the internal construction of the relay. An octal base relay can be SPST, SPDT, DPST, DPDT, 3PST, 3PDT. You have to replace with a relay having the same function.
