Anybody has experience with dc jacks on digital cameras?

I have an old Nikon Coolpix 5400. It has 8.4 VDC jack for EH-21 ac-dc adapter/battery charger (power the camera from wall outlet and charge battery in the camera at the same time, at least that is how I interpret what i read). I don't have EH-21.

I do have universal ac-dc adapter that has 9 VDC setting. Do you think I can use it instead of the 8.4 VDC EH-21?

 

Looking at the psu on Nikon's web site looks like its a 2.1 or 2.5mm DC jack plug, i would say 9V should work, as the camera will regulate the charge voltage, you could use a 9V dc adapter and put a 1N4001 diode in series with the output..
