I am trying to create a coaxial mapper.
Here's what I'm thinking.
1. I will terminate one end of the coax with one of eight resistor values.
2. Use the device I create to take a reading. If reading is:
- some voltage then turn on an LED labeled "voltage"
- no continuity then turn on an LED labeled "open circuit"
- continuity then turn on an LED labeled "short"
- ohms then on a corresponding LED for that specific resistance. At minimum there will be 8 potential resistance values each with separate LED.
3. (Probably optional) I'd also like to generate a tone over the line for up to 30 minutes by pressing a button.
I've read through the site books vol 1 through vol 6 but I'm not sure how to take a resistance reading and correlate it to an output. I think I need an ADC?
I've seen coax mappers that provide these functions but thought it would be a fun side project to make one. I can do these function with a multi-meter and terminating resister, but I'd liked to have a dedicated device "mapper" to do this.
Thanks in advance for the help and reading my post.
