I am working on a project that requires the use of a laser diode and driver. I am using a Sanyo Blue-Violet 405 nm M-type laser diode (DL-3146-151) and the iC-WKM laser diode driver. Here is the link for the laser diode driver: http://www.ichaus.de/product/iC-WKM. Here is the link for the laser diode:
http://www.sanyocomponentsdirect.com/Laser-Diodes/Laser-Diodes/Blue-Violet/DL-3146-151. I need to know the turn on delay of the driver when CI = 2 μF, the datasheet only gives the turn on delay when CI = 3.3 μF. How much voltage needs to be sent to the driver to get a power output of 5 mW at the laser? What should RM be to get 5 mW of power at the laser?

Can the casing of the laser diode be removed to use just the chip and how could that be mounted on a PCB? What kind of heatsink would be needed if I removed the casing? I need the heatsink to be as small as possible. Can the PCB be used as a heatsink if it is multilayered?

How would somebody send a control signal to the driver? Does the controller control the voltage supply, which is connected to the driver, or is the control signal sent to the driver at some pin?

Answers to any of these questions would be extremely helpful, thanks.

Have you been watching Kip Kay's burning laser videos on You Tube?

I need the laser diode for a fiber coupling project in my lab.

The laser is being coupled into a waveguide using lenses. I can't tell you much more without having you sign a NDA, sorry.

    What is a NDA?

This seems like something to ask the manufacturer or characterize yourself. Also note that even semiconductor lasers have a warm-up period.

I have asked the manufacturer and am waiting for a response, thought I would try these forums as well. The rest of the project has nothing to do with the questions I have about the diode and driver. Again, answers to any of the above questions would be very helpful, thank you.
