Hi, I'm a electrical engineer designing switch mode power supply. One of the customer making Christmas lighting request me to design a power supply with some built in function. ie. different flashing light pattern, music, etc.

I have very little experience with microcontroller. I wonder if anyone can suggest me a microcontroller that is adequate for this job or any other method for consideration. Thanks in advance.

 

First, I would keep the power supply separate from the lighting controller.
As to a micro, look at the Arduino or BASIC Stamp. The Arduino was designed with the novice in mind.
