Nature of batteries and wall-warts, negative voltage?

This isn't what I'm doing, or necessarily going to do, I'm just asking this question for the sake of my curiosity, I couldn't find an answer about this anywhere on the internet, and I realize I don't need it, but I'm curious about negative voltage, and I'm unsure on this topic

I'm really asking only about the general theory here, and if the respective voltages of the battery terminals are what I think they would be

like, would a battery with its positive terminal connected to earth ground and a circuit between its terminals behave any differently than if it had its negative terminal connected to ground?

I know there is no application for this information, I just want to fully understand what would happen

skipping all the talk about grounds his basic idea of 2 out of phase sources creating twice the voltage differential is sound. since the coil is AC this is a quesiton of having exactly the same frequency on both sides and making sure the phase is correct ( 180 + n360 ).
