I downloaded a sine wave MP3 file and put it on my MP3 player (Sony NWZ-E463) and connected the outputs to my new (to me) scope. If I am doing things right and reading the scope right, it looks like at full volume, the MP3 player is outputting 1.6 Vpp, and at 1/2 volume, it is outputting .16 Vpp. Does that seem correct? Thanks.

The ratio is right. Humans perceive -10 db as about half as loud.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know what is the "normal" voltage out of an MP3 player?
